The former chief executive of the Formula One Group, Bernie Ecclestone says that Lewis Hamilton should stick with his current team Mercedes rather than sign for Ferrari when his current contract runs out at the end of this season.

 

This is the advice from the F1 supremo to the Briton man who was getting ready for his seventh F1 world title to equal Schumacher's 7 titles in F1 history Lewis Hamilton had been due to start his bid for a seventh F1 world title until the opener race; Australian GP was called off due to the coronavirus pandemic.

 

Former F1 boss Ecclestone told the Daily Mail: “If I were Lewis I would stay with Mercedes."

As we heard lately, that there were big speculations about Hamilton moving to Ferrari once Vettel leaves the prancing horse squad to Maclaren most likely in 2021, the possible union of the Italian team with the Brit can be possible as he has the right to choose what team is next in his career. The 35-year-old once affirmed that driving for Ferrari would be something special for him, but Bernie Ecclestone believes the other way round.

 

Ecclestone added: "If I were a team boss I'd sign Max [from Red Bull]. He's quick and easy to deal with. If I had Lewis I'd just tell him what time the next race starts and say be there for then. Apart from that, he could do whatever he wants.

"Lewis has the best equipment and best team, the best everything," said Ecclestone. "It is hard to say this guy is better than so and so."

Ecclestone wasn't in Melbourne this weekend for the aborted season opener because of the coronavirus and says he has no interest in running the sport again.

"There is no need for him to worry about winning one more championship than Schumacher," Ecclestone continued. "If he wants to stop racing, he should not carry on just for that reason. He should carry on because he wants to drive.

"The problem with all the Italians, they don't want a fight, don't want an argument with anyone," he elaborated.

"Instead of saying to someone who is doing a bad job, 'Sort yourself out or I'll sort you out — please yourself, but I want results,' they say, 'Let's have dinner so we can talk about it. Be friends'."

Ferrari's current driver line-up is four-time champion Sebastian Vettel and c. Like Hamilton at Mercedes, Vettel's deal with the Prancing Horse expires at the end of the current year.
