The Hamilton-Ferrari suggestion saga goes on in the final press conference of the 2019 season with the top three finishers in Abu Dhabi. Lewis Hamilton has been linked to Ferrari for 2021, after team principal Mattia Binotto said he is ‘happy’ to know that the Briton does not have a deal in place after 2020. Further details have emerged throughout the race weekend at Yas Marina, leaving everyone wondering whether talks have been held between the six-time world champion and Ferrari president John Elkann.

Asked about it, Lewis Hamilton did not confirm or deny that he had actually sat down with Ferrari throughout his Mercedes stint, but suggested that he is willing to stay at Mercedes by stating “I love where I am now”.

“Everything that happens behind closed doors is obviously private, whoever you end up sitting with. I think for many years I have never ever stepped out or considered other options because I’ve been just driving straight ahead on to the journey we’ve been on. To be honest I think we’re still on that path”.

The Briton added thatToto Wolff “is also looking at his options” but surely knows what is best for his business.

Charles Leclerc was also involved in the discussion, after he was asked if he would welcome Hamilton as his teammate in 2021.

“Of course, at the end we are in F1 and I want to fight against the best. I’ve had a big opportunity this year to have Seb next to me, who is a four-time world champion and I’ve learned a lot from him”.
