Nico Hulkenberg who is aiming to end his F1 career with Renault with great results until he finds another chance after 2020 (currently without a race seat next year) had done a late improvement in the Abu Dhabi GP qualifying after being pushed down to 11th, thanks to Bottas's penalty as he will start 10th.

“We’ll take tenth today. I was pleased with the laps I produced throughout all three sessions. It was a bit tricky at the start, I was chasing the feeling in the car and I did the best I could. We were on the backfoot a little bit after yesterday, but we recovered well and found some performance overnight and today.

"It’s positive for the team, with both cars in Q3. I think it’s going to be exciting and tight tomorrow. We’re in a race for fifth and it’s all to play for.”

The German ends his three-year era with the french squad outfit after this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he lies 13th in the drivers’ standings on 37 points going into the final race, with Esteban Ocon taking his seat in 2020.

Renault is on 91 points, just eight ahead of sixth-placed Toro Rosso in the standings, and Hulkenberg is aiming to go out on a high at the season finale.
