The action begins at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, for the first session of the weekend.

Right here in Mexico Lewis Hamilton can confirm himself World Champion for the sixth time: he only needs 14 points of advantage on his team mate Valtteri Bottas at the end of the race to become champion here, as he did last year.

The rain covered the Autodromo during the night, and this is why most of drivers hit the track with Intermediate tyres.

Others, like Raikkonen, Hulkenberg, Norris, both Toro Rosso and Williams started their first sint with sleek tyres. Nicholas Latifi has taken over Robert Kubica's car today, for FP1 only.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull are the ones under the spotlight here in Mexico, as the Dutch man won the last two editions of the GP. The altitude is a problem for most of teams, causing cooling issues, but it seems like Red Bull's characteristics has always fit this circuit. Daniel Ricciardo, who was wearing the Red bull suit last year, scored his last pole position here in Mexico City.

Speaking of the Reanult driver, as it is known, both him and his team mate were disqualified from the Japanese Grand Prix because of a non - conforming ‘pre-set lap distance-dependent brake bias adjustment system’. The French team, then, is now just 6 points ahead of Toro Rosso in the constructors championship and has decided not to appeal to the FIA decision.

The first significant lap time is clocked by Valtteri Bottas after 25 minutes from the green flag: 1.21.887s, five seconds slower that last year's FP1 lap times. The surface is still wet in some parts, so that most of drivers cut more than one sector, especially in turn 1.

Charles Leclerc is the first one to go under 1.19s with his timed lap: 1.18.849s is the time scored wearing the medium Pirelli compound.

The circuit is quiet for a few minutes, but then everyone is out again with 30 minutes left. Albon takes the lead, showing off the Red Bull strenght, but Lance Stroll hits the wall and causes a yellow flag, right after the stadium. He makes it to the pit lane, but his Racing Point is damaged, as well as the wall. Red flag is deployed.

The session restarts, 20 minutes are left and everyone is back on track. Hamilton takes back the lead, and his soon followed by Leclerc, 1 tenth behind him.

The last minutes were spent for some starting practice, with some race pace simulation too. Anyway, the classification stays almost the same: Lewis Hamilton closes on top, followed by Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Albon, Bottas, Vettel, Sainz, Gasly, Kvyat and Giovinazzi.

Here the complete results for the FP1 session in Mexico City at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
