Lando was quite excited of his performance as the McLaren MCL-34 form is getting better race after race. After finishing sixth in qualifying, he gained even more positions on the grid thanks to his rivals grid penalties. “It was a good quali. We knew it was going to be a tough and it turned out to be closer than at Paul Ricard. But we can all be pleased with starting P4 – a great job by the team here and back at Woking."

Lewis Hamilton will in fact start the Austrian GP from fifth on the grid, after he received a penalty for blocking Kimi Raikkonen during Q1. With that grid penalty and with Kevin Magnussen's one, Lando Norris will actually start fourth overall, a career's best for the young Brit.

“I’ll try to have a race like we had last week at Paul Ricard. The key will be to consolidate my start position and stay out of trouble, and see where we end up. The high ambient and track temperatures are likely to have a big impact on the results.”, Norris added.

McLaren's new team principal Andreas Seidl was very happy of the team's effort for the weekend. Even with Carlos Sainz grid penalty, the German manager underlined the importance of the work done by both drivers: “Another excellent performance from Lando, who starts P4. Congratulations to the entire team and both drivers who executed two clean sessions in challenging hot conditions today. The team and the drivers kept working on improving the car overnight, we continued our good run in FP3 and ran solidly in the top 10 again – Carlos’ work in free practice contributing to our very good quali performance."

Carlos showed a bit of frustration for not having to compete for Q3 as his teammates. The Spaniard knows that it could have been a great chance to put both McLaren in the front rows. “It’s been a difficult Saturday for me. Not being able to compete out there today is very disappointing", Sainz said. "Preparing the set-up for the race and not even using the performance engine modes made my qualifying very frustrating. Tomorrow is another day and I’m sure I’ll wake up fully motivated for the race. We'll try to recover from the back and work our way up the field"
