Formula 1 Radio: Radio Monaco
The most famous Formula 1 radio show is back with the sassiest radio communications: Formula 1 Radio is back! Guess who’s on top of our Hit Parade in Radio Monaco and who earned our Special Prize
Welcome everybody to this new edition of Formula 1 Radio: this time we are live from Monaco, sipping champagne on a yatch, enjoying the music, the sun, the party, the glamour…
To Pierre Gasly - “Have a drink. Try your drink.” (Pre- race)
Even our drivers did!!
Okay, let’s get back to business.
We can’t really say we did enjoy the sun in Monaco. Summer won’t come around here this year, and not just because “winter is coming”. This was the reason why everyone was struggling with tyres temperature.
Especially one team.
Daniil Kvyat - “Guys I need those temperature in the tyres.” (FP1)
You can try and ask Ferrari how to do it.
Sebastian Vettel - “Which tyres we had to put?? Is the first or the second one? F**k anyways. Is the second warm?”
“It is warming up.” (FP2)
Mmm, maybe not.
Sebastian Vettel - “Okay, I need more front, the front is not working.” (Q2)
“So the front tyre temperature seems a bit low.”
Charles Leclerc - “Yes, but I.. I’m, I’m… pushing and they won’t warm up enough.” (FP2)
Charles, it’s not your fault. From what your team principle said, I think you must get used to it.
Max Verstappen - “I know. Tyres are cold. What’s the most important we did? It in was free track. What happens in Q3? No free track.” (Q3)
Yes, Monaco is really a small country, but is maybe one of the busiest places on hearth.
This means very few ingredients for the Monaco GP.
Flatspots and messy laps:
Nico Hulkenberg - “Screwed up by exit of turn 7, the front wing is crawling around each time, losing like sparks coming of it.” (FP1)
Daniel Ricciardo - “I’m getting strange to those spins out of the chicane and it getting worse.” (FP2)
Daniel Ricciardo - “I can’t… yeah, I can’t get any more out of these.” (FP2)
Lando Norris - “Got a massive flatspot.”
“Is the flatspot too harsh to drive on?”
Lando Norris - “Yeah it’s pretty bad.”
“Okay, understood Lando, we will box this lap.” (FP1)
Nico Hulkenberg - “Quite a messy lap, I don’t know.” (FP2)
Daniil Kvyat - “If I stay this close I open the graining myself. Let him die on this tyres and then we’ll attack.” (Race)
A grown up, cold and calculator Torpedo is back in the Paddock?
Daniil Kvyat - “Something is hanging in my cockpit, I don’t know where it is..” (Race)
Or maybe he was planning a revenge to whoever did him this joke: the one guilty is the same who this the exact same joke to Antonio Giovinazzi? We have a serial killer in the Paddock!
Crashes into the wall:
George Russell - “I just hit the wall.. I’ll do a slow lap now to see if it’s okay.” (FP1)
Sebastian Vettel - “Locked up in turn one. Front left is gone. F******! Sorry for that.”
“Are you okay?”
Sebastian Vettel - “Yeah, yeah.” (FP3)
Oh Seb! 🙈#MonacoGP 🇲🇨 #F1 pic.twitter.com/AlONZr0sLy

Sergio Perez - “I clipped the wall in turn 8.”
“Understood. Front right any damage?”
Sergio Perez - “No.” (Q1)
And traffic and slow pace:
Daniil Kvyat - “I had traffic with Valtteri. I don’t know how much it costed me.” (Q3)
Lewis Hamilton - “Safety car is super slow.” (Race)
“Slightly bizzare, you were the quickest car on the track that lap.”
Nico Hulkenberg - “Uuuuh.”
“If we can find another one we’ll might get that extra point.” (Race)
George Russell - “How is the general pace? It feels quite slow.” (FP3)
Oh, come on, really? A Williams?
To George Russell - “Okay you are the quickest car on track.” (Race)
You know they felt like they won the championship, right?
Speaking about Williams, it feels like Robert Kubica really didn’t enjoy the “part mode” in Monaco.
Maybe George being the fastest on track didn’t make him that happy.
Robert Kubica - “Okay, I thought the driver who is in front gets priority.” (Race)
But this was nothing compared to this other team radio:
“Okay, Robert so we can push on this set, bring it in. Currently George is the quickest car in free air.”
Robert Kubica - “Paul, I already know what to do.” (Race)
I don’t need to remind you: “leave me alone I know what I’m doing”. Exactly. Robert Kubica has maybe spent some time with Kimi Raikkonen in Monaco.
“Leave me alone” was surely what all the drivers thought while driving into each other. Some of our beloved heroes love to do this on every track (Haas boys, I’m not talking about you), but it is known that in Monaco it’s easy to cross another’s way.
Antonio Giovinazzi - “McLaren again.”
“Copy Antonio.” (FP1)
Charles Leclerc - “Magnussen is crazy! We nearly crashed!” (FP3)
“Okay, watch for Verstappen behind.”
Romain Grosjean - “F**k f**k f**k. Mate, what? Honestly people don’t give a f**k have I got time for one more?”
“We cannot, we cannot.”
Romain Grosjean - “No, serious?” (Q2)
The clock is ticking down on Q2 and Romain Grosjean is on a hot lap...#MonacoGP 🇲🇨 #F1 pic.twitter.com/IyNLaoDcs8

Sebastian Vettel - “That was a very aggressive release from Red Bull.” (Race)
Romain Grosjean - “That was kamikaze!”
“Understood, we’re looking it.” (Race)
Kimi Raikkonen - “Again, he just f**king drive into me.”
“We saw it Kimi, we have the onboard.” (Race)
It’s Monaco, after all. But you know what they say, the best is yet to come, and obviously we reserved the bast team radio for our Hit Parade!
Third position for Carlos Sainz, who was the first of the others in Monaco!
Carlos Sainz - “Wooh, thank you guys. Good turn around. Definitely another car compared to this morning. Let’s go get them.” (Q3)
“Well done Carlos, well done. P6. Fantastic drive!”
Carlos Sainz - “Yeah, great job guys. I did the job at the start, you did it at the strategy. What a team. WHAT A TEAM!” (Chekered flag)
Guess the Woking team has find the right Spaniard made for them!
Second place for Lewis Hamilton.
I’ve never seen someone as worried as him. Seriously, Lewis, why do you worry at all when you always end up being the winner?
Bono is a saint, let me tell.
Here is Lewis complete speech during the Monaco race. Believe me when I say that there were a lot of Team Radio that are not transcribed here.
Lewis Hamilton - “Had you consider the hard tyre on me?”
“If we need to stop again Lewis, you will go for the hard.” (Race)
Lewis Hamilton - “Question: does James thinks I’m in trouble with these tyres? I’m driving super slow, I don’t know how long they’re gonna last.” (Race)
Lewis Hamilton - “Are the others just holding back or they’re trying to keep up?”
“Cars behind have realized how hard it is to overtake here.” (Race)
Lewis Hamilton - “Am I wearing the wrong tyre?” (Race)
Lewis Hamilton - “I think I’m in big trouble guys. Front left is dead.” (Race)
Lewis Hamilton - “We’re gonna lose this race, Bono. I can’t look out after these tyres anymore. They’re dead.”
“So Lewis just thinking about if we manage to the same pace of the cars in front, we can still hold Verstappen behind.”
Lewis Hamilton - “I can’t keep the car behind, Bono! Can’t you see that?”
“Yeah, no problem Lewis, I can hear you loud and clear.” (Race)
Lewis Hamilton - “I don’t know what you’re thinking when you kept these tyres on man.. I need to hope for a miracle.” (Race)
Lewis Hamilton - “He definitely made that out for me. This was for Niki.” (Race)
I am truly convinced that Lewis Hamilton must hand an extra paycheck to Bono.
Bono, you are the true hero of the Monaco Grand Prix.
We feel you.
And after this odyssey written by King Lewis, here is our winner.
Who else, if not Kimi Raikkonen?
Kimi Raikkonen - “Yeah, I have that Force India or whatever the f**k it’s called.” (FP2)
I’ll say two words: bow down.
Hey @RacingPointF1, what was that name again? 😇😂 #MonacoGP pic.twitter.com/hzWdWKVuWj
— Alfa Romeo Racing (@alfaromeoracing) 23 maggio 2019
To Kimi Raikkonen - “Okay, Kimi ahead of you is your friend Stroll on cold tyres.” (Race)
Your friend Stroll. This is lovely. We love you Kimi. Congrats on 300 Grand Prix in Formula 1.
And now, the moment you’ve been all waiting for: where are all Ferrari’s team radios from this disastrous weekend?
We had a difficult time finding them, but no one can stop Formula 1 Radio, and obviously Ferrari won our “Special Prize: Honestly, what are we doing here?”.
No, it’s a serious question guys, you have to answer!
This is what happened during Qualifying session.
“Mode push for last corner, mode push.”
Charles Leclerc - “I’ve flat-spotted the tyres.”
“Okay, next car behind is Sebastian, eight seconds, he’ll be on a slow lap.” (Q1)
Charles Leclerc, Monaco’s home hero, come back to the pit after his first attempt in Q1, and..
“Do you think you can push another lap with these tyres?”
Charles Leclerc - “Can try, yes.”
“And box now, box. Next car behind is Albon on an out-lap, box now.”
“Weigh bridge, weigh bridge.”
Charles Leclerc - “Wait, wait, wait, I haven’t..”
“Weigh bridge.” (Q1)
Maybe the Italian team was afraid of the costume fitting, you know, with summer, all these supermodels all around..
“You can switch off the radio. And P0.”
Charles Leclerc - “Do we have to go again?”
“We’ll get ready Charles, but we don’t really have to go.” (Q1)

— Formula 1 (@F1) 25 maggio 2019
But they didn’t and Charles Leclerc ended up being out of the race for Pole Position already in Q1.
The race wasn’t easier, even if Charles gave his all.
Charles Leclerc - “Do I have a puncture?”
“We have a puncture!” (Race)
Charles Leclerc - “I’m the first one to not give up, but I’m telling you the car is very difficult to drive.” (Race)
Ah, such a sad ending.
And sad was the entire weekend. Motorsport lost a true hero, a true driver, a myth for everyone in the Paddock: Niki Lauda. We all remember him, here at MotorLat and Formula 1 Radio, as such true characters like Niki will never be forgotten.
We hope you enjoyed Radio Monaco, see you in Montreal!
