Azerbaijan GP: Leclerc on Ferrari tactics
The Monegasque was dissatisfied with the late pit stop during the race in Azerbaijan.
After the qualifying accident Charles Leclerc started from P9 on Medium tyres and took the lead of the race. However, towards the end of the first segment he began to lose speed and ask the team for a pit stop. In the end he changed the tyres on the 34th lap. By that time the driver was already the 4th, and finished the 5th.
However, the Monegasque was being cautious, asked after the finish to the question about the tactics of Ferrari.
"I believe there was a reason to stay on the track for so long. I need to look at the data before commenting. I feel like I lost time while Valtteri, Lewis and Seb were passing me. We have to deal with this."
Leclerc admitted that after the pit stop, there was no sense in chasing the leaders. As a result, Monegasque focused on setting the fastest lap time – 1:43.009, which earned him an extra point.
"I asked if we could catch up with them and was told no. After that, there was no sense in chasing. We decided to just take care of the tyres and set the fastest lap when we had the chance."
