After the qualifying accident Charles Leclerc started from P9 on Medium tyres and took the lead of the race. However, towards the end of the first segment he began to lose speed and ask the team for a pit stop. In the end he changed the tyres on the 34^th lap. By that time the driver was already the 4^th, and finished the 5^th.

However, the Monegasque was being cautious, asked after the finish to the question about the tactics of Ferrari.

"I believe there was a reason to stay on the track for so long. I need to look at the data before commenting. I feel like I lost time while Valtteri, Lewis and Seb were passing me. We have to deal with this."

Leclerc admitted that after the pit stop, there was no sense in chasing the leaders. As a result, Monegasque focused on setting the fastest lap time – 1:43.009, which earned him an extra point.
