Azerbaijan GP: Riccardo apologized to Kvyat for the clash in Baku
Daniel Riccardo admitted that he was wrong in the situation that led to retirement of himself and Daniil Kvyat.
Riccardo’s and Kvyat’s cars were damaged as a result of collision in Turn 3. The Australian who was backing up didn’t notice the Toro Rosso, as a result of which there was a contact. Both were able to then return to the track, but eventually stopped fighting.
After the race, the drivers met in the stewards’ room, where Riccardo apologized to the Russian.
“It was a strange incident which forced the retirement, but it was my mistake and I’m sorry to the team and to Daniil. It was a bit of urgency on my behalf and I didn’t think straight for a few seconds, so I have to take that once on the chin. The team certainly deserved more today. We were bringing on a nice rhythm there and had some good pace on the Medium to continue on and we probably could have scored points.”
The stewards found Riccardo guilty of the collision and punished by losing three positions on the grid in Barcelona.
