After back to back wins at the Italian GP in Mugello and at the Spanish GP at Catalunya, Jorge Lorenzo joins at elite club alongside Casey Stoner, Loris Capirossi and Andrea Dovizioso who have all won back to back GP's on a Ducati.

With both of these wins in the bag for the Spaniard, this takes him to seventh in the championship on 66 points. He is on the same amount of points as his teammate Dovizioso.

Mugello and Catalunya are both well known as suiting the Ducati well over the past few years but do these wins for Lorenzo make him a serious title challenger to current championship leader Marc Marquez?

Reflecting on his championship chances, Lorenzo said: “Honestly, this is a championship that changes so much, I also can lose a lot of points in a difficult race.

“Assen for example is a track that for a lot of years I don't get a good result, last year was not very good.

“But our bike now is very competitive, I feel great, and probably we have the most complete Ducati ever. So that's also a good signal.”

Lorenzo is currently 49 points behind Marquez in the standings and still has a mountain to climb to turn this around, but he has nothing to lose.

The biggest points deficit to win the championship was last year when Marquez was 37 points behind the championship leader after six races.

If Lorenzo continues to win races, then he may start to become a serious title challenger on his last year at Ducati before he moves to Honda next year alongside Marquez.
