One of the essential steps that a driver must take in order to aspire to become a Formula 1 driver is to be part of a young driver academy. Currently there are many academies, some with more prestige than others, but in some it is more difficult to get a seat in the highest category of motorsports. The most famous is the Red Bull Junior Academy. The purpose of these academies is to train young drivers and prepare them in other lower categories so that they arrive with a good performance in Formula 1. There is a contract through which it stipulates what the Academy expects from the driver, and if not satisfied, the Academy can cut the pilot for failing to meet the performance. Red Bull is also extremely demanding, but it is also very likely to help you get a seat in the category.

In this article, we talk about 2 drivers who join the Alpine Academy. We're talking about Jack Doohan and Olli Caldwell. Both drivers will drive in Formula 2 this 2022 season, Doohan with Virtuosi Racing and Caldwell with Campos Racing. Guanyu Zhou is a clear example of a driver who has been in the academy of this team and has managed to enter Formula 1, the 2022 season being his first in that category.

When Mia Sharizman, who serves as Director of the Alpine Academy, was asked what he thought of having these two new drivers in the academy program and what his expectations were for their respective seasons in Formula 2, this was who answered:

"We are in a new cycle of Formula 2 drivers in the Academy, which will reach its peak in two or three years." Sharizman stated. “We hope that both of them will gradually progress in the first half of the season in 2022 and take the next step at the end of the year. We will be patient with them as they begin to learn the philosophy of the Academy and how to use the tools available.”

“Getting to the Academy and directly to Formula 2 is not easy and it will take time. However, Jack showed promising performances last year when he claimed second place in Formula 3 and his strong speed in the last two rounds of Formula 2. They are in a good place and we will look to support them as best we can.”

“They are willing to listen, learn and apply. That is all we ask.” This is how the Director of the Alpine Young Drivers Academy ended.
