With the 2021 season already over and the 2022 getting closer to starting, we can now review the performance of the 20 drivers who participated. But beyond that, we can make the comparison of the performance of the respective teammates. It’s well said that the best comparison of a driver and his greatest rival is his teammate. This is thanks to the fact that both drivers have exactly the same car, so the results that someone achieves with that car are possible if they have the same car. In this case we analyse Williams and its two drivers, that is, George Russell and Nicholas Latifi. Let us remember that the 2021 season was George Russell's last year with the British team, since as of this year, the British driver has become the teammate of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.

Qualifying session

With 22 races, George Russell has beaten his teammate 20 times. Latifi was ahead of Russell in only 2 races (Brazilian and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix). The best position obtained by the British driver was P2 at the Belgian Grand Prix, while the Canadian driver was P12 at the Belgian Grand Prix. Russell managed to advance to Q3 in 4 races (Austrian, British, Belgian and Russian Grands Prix), while Latifi never advanced to this stage. On the other hand, Russell advanced to Q2 in 15 races, while Latifi only in 4. Finally, Russell's average qualifying position was P12, while the Canadian's was P16. Also, on average, Russell was 0.781 seconds faster than Latifi in this session.

Race

The most surprising fact about these two drivers was that together they had a total of 11 unfinished races. That is a lot for any team, and an unfavourable statistic since George Russell had to retire in 6 races (Imola, Baku, Styrian, Dutch, Saudi Arabian and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix), while Latifi did so in 5 races (Bahrain, Imola, Russian, Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix). Neither of these two drivers achieved a victory, however, George Russell managed to get on the podium on one occasion (Belgian GP). The Briton managed to enter the top-10 and the points zone in 4 races (Hungarian, Belgian, Italian and Russian Grand Prix), while Latifi did it twice (Belgian and Hungarian Grand Prix). George Russell had a better finishing position than his teammate on 15 occasions, while Latifi managed to beat Russell in 5 races. Finally, the average position of the British was P12, and the average position of the Canadian was P15.
