Following the crushing disappointment of losing the Drivers' Championship with Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the 2021 season eleven days ago, Mercedes are showing they mean business for next year.

The eight-time defending Constructors' Champions have become the first team to fire up their 2022 challenger and release a video of the occasion on their social media channels today.

Unsurprisingly, it didn't show any details of the car as the teams try to hide every small detail with their new packages. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was not in attendance at the factory but watched the event via his phone.

Mercedes will be hoping that the W13 lands them a ninth consecutive Constructors' Championship in 2022 and either an eighth Drivers' Championship for Lewis Hamilton or a first for fellow Brit George Russell.

With the new regulations kicking in next year, the teams will start to have an idea on how their cars are performing during pre-season testing. They will be held at the Circuit de Catalunya (23th to the 25th of February) and the Bahrain International Circuit (11th to the 13 March).

Haas also confirmed today that they passed their crash tests for the 2022 season. You can read about that here.
