After a weekend to forget in Austin, where both A521 were forced to retire, Alpine gets back into the points in Mexico with Fernando Alonso. A P9 that allows the team to keep the 5th place in the Constructor Championship despite Pierre Gasly’s remarkable performance that was worth a P4 finish. Alpha Tauri and Alpine now have the exact same amount of points – 106 – but the latter stands ahead thanks to Esteban Ocon’s win at the Hungarian Grand Prix back in august.

“I am happy with a well-executed race for us today. Ninth and in the points after a difficult day yesterday is ultimately a good result. I was not proud of my job yesterday, but I am prouder today,” commented Alonso after the race.

“It was quite a messy start and I had to dodge a few cars in the first few corners. It was very close, but we did quite well to avoid any damage and then I gained some positions after the Safety Car.”

He started the race from P12, managed to avoid clashes in the opening lap chaos and then climbed his way into the points by overtaking Mazepin’s Haas and George Russell’s Williams into Turn 4. He held in P10 after pitting and took the 9th position after Lando Norris stopped to pit as well. A P9 that Alonso defended until the chequered flag.

“It’s good to see the car can fight for points finishes consistently despite starting lower down the grid. We did lose out a little to Alpha Tauri today in the battle for fifth, but hopefully the points we scored today will help the team for the end of the season.”
