British-Korean racing driver and Williams Racing reserve driver will run the Williams FW43B in FP1 for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix later in the year. Aitken has previously driven for the team, with an FP1 appearance at the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix, as well as making his F1 race debut with the team at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, in place of George Russell.

Aitken has shown his racing prowess throughout his junior career, finishing as runner-up in the 2017 GP3 Championship with ART Grand Prix and 5th in the 2019 Formula 2 Championship with Campos Racing. Aitken has been on the radar of F1 teams, having initially been part of the Renault Driver Academy before being signed by Williams as a test and reserve driver in 2019. Aitken has said he is “pumped” to get behind the wheel of Formula 1 machinery once again in the upcoming FP1 session.

With the announcement of Aitken’s FP1 drive, it has also been announced that 2 time W Series champion, Extreme E driver and Williams Racing development driver Jamie Chadwick has been announced as one of the drivers taking part in the upcoming World Endurance Championship’s Bahrain rookie test. Chadwick will test the Richard Mille Racing Team LMP2 Oreca alongside Alice Powell. The announcement follows Chadwick’s crowning as W Series champion for the second time, having won the inaugural championship in 2019.

The Rookie test takes place on November 7th at the Bahrain International Circuit, and is split between a 2-hour session followed by a 3-hour session in the afternoon.
