All the Grand Prix in the American continent have probably been the ones that have had the greatest degree of uncertainty for their realization. We know that during the 2020 Formula 1 season, the category decided not to visit this continent due to the numerous Covid-19 infections, leaving aside any possibility of traveling further west of the planet. In 2021 the situation is different, but it remains uncertain. Canada has already been ruled out due to travel restrictions, the United States appears to be taking a promising role thanks to much of the country having already been fully vaccinated, there has even been talk of two Grand Prix on US soil. The Mexican Grand Prix is still standing, but the rise in infections is an increasingly strong threat. And, in this article, we will talk about the Brazilian Grand Prix.

We know that the rumour of transferring the Grand Prix from Sao Paulo (Interlagos) to Rio de Janeiro, was getting stronger and more real, however, Formula 1 and the organization of the race decided to sign a contract renewal for 5 more years in this city. Today, Monday, August 16, representatives of the organization of the Brazilian Grand Prix held a virtual press conference in which several important and surprising facts were released.

In the first place, the Brazilian Grand Prix will cease to be called that, to be replaced by the Sao Paulo Grand Prix (Sao Paulo Formula 1 Grand Prix, as its official name).

Second, the event authorities have stated that there will be no restrictions on public entry, that is, the venue can be used 100%. Previous news confirmed that only a total of 20,000 seats were going to be sold, however, and as reported by "The Brazilian Report", Governor Joao Doria confirmed that the 70,000 seats available at the Jose Carlos Pace Racetrack will go on sale. In support of this decision, the Brazilian authority commented that the state of Sao Paulo has already vaccinated 99% of adults with at least one dose. In addition, it is possible that there are vaccination requirements to be able to buy the tickets, and / or a negative PCR test no longer than 48 hours after it has been done. In addition, the governor also announced that the 2018 edition of the Grand Prix generated around 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, in addition to the fact that a 77% increase in tourism results in this international event being the most important in the city.

Finally, it was also announced that the organization of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix has sent a request to change the date of its event. Initially, Formula 1 had stipulated that the weekend in which this event would take place would be November 12, 13 and 14, however, the category decided to advance it for a week before (November 5, 6 and 7), this in order to make room for Australia and with this modification there would be a triple header (United States, Mexico and Brazil). However, Australia was definitively cancelled, and the next - and last - event in the category would be the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix (it would take place on December 3, 4 and 5). Thanks to this, Brazil has requested to move its event one week, to return to the original dates on which it was planned to take place (November 12, 13 and 14). At first glance it seems to be a quite attractive change, since it would not be so much the time between Brazil and Saudi Arabia. However, the premier category should consider the trips of the teams and drivers, logistics, among other aspects.
