Alfa Romeo Racing’s head of trackside engineering Xevi Pujolar has stated that there is no track where Alfa Romeo can’t score points at, as the Formula 1 paddock heads into the summer break.

Prior to last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo had scored only two points finishes all season, with Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen picking up a single point finish between them at both Monte Carlo and Baku.

Raikkonen scored again in a chaotic Hungarian Grand Prix despite picking up a penalty after being released into the pathway of Nikita Mazepin in the pitlane, whilst Giovinazzi failed to score after his race was compromised after picking up a ten-second penalty for speeding in the pitlane.

To make matters worse for Alfa Romeo, Williams, who came into Hungary behind the Swiss outfit, took their first double points finish since the 2018 Italian Grand Prix and, as a result, overtook Alfa Romeo for eighth in the constructor's championship, with the Swiss team falling to ninth as a result ahead of Haas who remain scoreless.

However, when speaking to selected media publications, including Motorlat.com, Pujolar was confident that Alfa Romeo could score points at any of the remaining tracks left on the ever-changing 2021 calendar as they begin the second half of the season with a seven-point deficit to Williams.

“I think at most tracks (this year) we’ve been performing reasonably well if we have both drivers in Q2, so if we can maintain that, and I think we can maintain that on tracks where you run maximum downforce or on tracks when the efficiency level is a little bit higher.

Pujolar also believed that the team could close the gap to Williams, but the Spaniard also admitted that it would be more achievable for Alfa Romeo to overtake Williams over multiple races rather than in a single Grand Prix.

“I think, under normal racing conditions, we could achieve – not in one go – but if we had only three or four races left, probably (not). But with multiple races to go, then it’s achievable.
