The second practice session of the day gets underway on a very heated Friday afternoon at the Hungaroring, as Raikkonen and Sainz go out on track as soon as the pit exit’s light turns green. The two are immediately followed by most of the grid, with only Tsunoda and the Red Bulls still in the garage.

Sainz is the first to close a lap and sets the bar at 1m21.084s on the hard, a time that is beaten seconds later by his teammate Charles Leclerc who headed out on mediums. The two Alpines take the lead with Alonso in P1 and Ocon in P2, only to be beaten by Bottas’ 1m18.376s. Alonso keeps the 2nd place, while Ocon goes 4th behind Stroll. Most of the grid is out on mediums, only Sainz, Norris and Latifi opted for a harder compound. Hamilton gets P2, while Gasly and Ocon are contending for the 4th place.

Verstappen closes his first flying lap in between the two Mercedeses, while his teammate Sergio Perez goes P4. Only driver that is yet to head out on track is Tsunoda, as his AlphaTauri is getting fixed following his FP1 crash this morning. Fifteen minutes into the session Hamilton takes the lead with a 1m18.140s lap, in front of Bottas and Verstappen who stands in 3rd.

Sebastian Vettel and the Williams are the first to bring out the softest compound, with the Aston Martin bouncing up to P2 and George Russell taking P9. While Verstappen’s Red Bull is struggling to find balance, while Gasly who is now on softs goes fastest closing the lap in 1m18.133s. Softs for the Ferraris as well. Bottas and Hamilton jump back to retake respectively P1 and P2, with Ocon in third. First try on softs for Norris ends in 7th, while with the same compound Verstappen goes third and Perez fifth. The other McLaren is in P12.

A little over 30 minutes into the session, the Ferraris stand outside of the top 10: P11 for Leclerc, P12 for Sainz. Meanwhile Norris is ninth between the Aston Martins. Perez is still behind Ocon and struggling with vibrations on his soft tyres, while Bottas comes out of the pitlane on mediums. Ten minutes until the end of the session and Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri is still in the garage. Not the best performance for Red Bull as Verstappen is still struggling to find a good setup and goes back into the pits for a front wing adjustment.

At Turn 11 Hamilton loses his rear and ends up in the run off. Only two minutes are left when Tsunoda joins the rest of the grid on track for a last minute attempt on soft tyres, closing the lap in 1m19.671s grasping P17. FP2 ends with Valtteri Bottas at the top, followed closely by his teammate Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull. P4 for Ocon ahead of Perez, while Ferrari closed the session just outside of the top 10.
