In Q1, both Fernando Alonso and teammate, Esteban Ocon remained in the garage early after the first of two red flags due to Scuderia AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda spin. After a short while, Alonso was able to clock in a 1: 32.158 in P10 just +0.019 seconds behind his teammate. The remainder of Q1 was delayed due to Mick Schumacher's incident, which resulted in a second red flag, prompting the decision to advance to Q2 based on laptimes set prior. In which both drivers safely progressed to Q2.

In Q2, both Alpine drivers chose Mediums over Softs as they believed the Softs were not a good starting compound. Alonso with a 1: 31.566 put him in seventh and after a final run in Q2, went 1: 31.549 putting himself in the top 10 to advance to Q3.

For the fourth time this season, Alonso was able to advance himself to Q3. I have finished inside the top eight on the Medium compound before switching to Softs for a final attempt. He ended Q3 with a 1: 31.340 placing him P9.

Post-qualifying, Alonso comments,  “I am happy with today and I think it's more or less where we expected to be."

He continues, "Our pace looked good going into qualifying and then I felt we maximized most of our laps during the session with a few exceptions."

He adds, "It's going to be very tight tomorrow and we are around some very quick cars all on the same tires."

He concludes, "Overall, though, I think we have to be satisfied with our starting position and the points are given out tomorrow, so we need to prepare for the race in the proper way."

Alpine Racing has been strong all weekend and hopes to maintain that momentum into tomorrow's race when they hope to finish well for both cars.
