It was not to be for Ferrari today in Azerbaijan as Charles Leclerc finished P4 after starting on pole position. The Monegasque driver was swallowed up by Hamilton and the Red Bulls early on as the Ferrari couldn't match the pace of the top three. 

He was then overtaken by Sebastian Vettel and Pierre Gasly later in the race; despite his best efforts to repass the AlphaTauri on the final lap for the final podium spot, he had to settle for P4 after Verstappen and Hamilton's issues. 

A mistake on cold tyres from Carlos Sainz on lap 11 lost him a lot of time and was forced to settle for P8 in the end. 

Ferrari leaves Azerbaijan with the satisfaction of moving up one place in the Constructors' classification to third place, overtaking rivals McLaren. 

When interviewed post-race, Charles Leclerc comments, "Before arriving in Baku, P4 was more or less where we could expect to finish the race."

He adds, "The first surprise of the weekend was our pole position. A second surprise was that some of our competitors in the midfield were extremely quick today. Despite starting at the front, we knew we could well be overtaken by the cars of the two front running teams, which is what happened."

He continues, "After the first stop, I tried to do the best job possible. I had a lockup after the restart following the first safety car. Continuing with two flat spots was the most difficult part of the race. I really thought I wouldn’t make it to the end. Then we had the red flag, and I thought about the podium." 

To conclude, "But unfortunately, we didn’t’ make it. Seb did an incredible job – congratulations to him. The same goes for Pierre, it was a hard fight with him at the end! We will keep working and pushing in the right direction."
