The Free Practice 2 was preceded by Valtteri Bottas being the fastest one during the first session of the weekend topping Max Verstappen and then Lewis Hamilton, in a space of less than a tenth and a half in the final times.

All drivers started lapping with the medium compound, as usual, beginning with the time scoring of the flying laps.

This saw Verstappen, Bottas and Hamilton constantly fighting for the top step of the timing table taking fastest time after fastest time from each other, at least for the first 15 minutes of the session, including when the teams started trying the soft tyre, being the British the one who finally came on top with a time of 1.18.170, followed by Bottas 0.139 seconds behind and Charles Leclerc's Ferrari on third, 0.165 seconds behind.

The midfield of the grid was tight as both Alpines, both Ferraris and both Alfa Tauri drivers performed strongly occupying from the 3rd place to the 8th, being the Red Bull drivers the ones to complete the top 10 that finished the session in a space of 0.750 tenths far from the 1st, being the Dutchman the 9th fastest and the Mexican 10th.

Aston Martin has shown positive signs of improvement as Sebastian Vettel finished the session 11^th just 0.029 cents far from Sergio Pérez. Lance Stroll managed to put the car 14^th meanwhile the McLaren drivers classified 12^th and 15^th.

Onto the final 20 minutes of the session the cars were totally charged with fuel and started practicing race pace laps, with the Mercedes drivers being the most consistent ones, Hamilton lapping in a constantly 1:22.6, with Bottas a close 1:23.0 and finally Verstappen and Pérez improving, going together 1.22.9 and 1.23.4 respectively. Leclerc completed the top 5 lapping 1.23.0. All this was done with the yellow Pirellis.
