After heading at Maranello from Woking ahead of the 2021 season, Carlos Sainz will finally have the chance to try out a Ferrari Formula 1 car. Due to the Coronavirus which reduced winter tests in March, the Spaniard seemed doomed to go on the track for his first race with his new team without any actual experience, expect some simulator runs and some teamwork he is been doing on these days in the Maranello factory.

The Prancing Horse team found another solution though. To help its drivers to focus on the track and making ready, Ferrari planned some regular tests in Fiorano over some sessions of private tests.

The rules say that the teams may use some F1 single seaters but with some exceptions. They have to be older than two seasons. This means that Sainz will have the chance to test the Ferrari SF71H, the 2018 car that won six races. A great help to the Madrid driver, who will be lucky enough to experiment a successful car and learn how to exploit the best of the team.

Next week the Fiorano track will be completely available for Carlos Sainz but Ferrari will not exclude its first drive Charles Leclerc, if the Monegasque will be tested negative to Covid-19.

Even if it will be on a three-year-old car, this experience will be very meaningful to Sainz, as the Spaniard could not only be on track with a F1 Ferrari but he will test out his engineers and mechanics team that will be with him for all the course of the 2021 season.

The waiting for his 2021 car will be longer though. Sainz will indeed drive the SF21 only on pre-seasonal tests in Bahrain, which will be held on the dates March 12-14. He will have to be ready by then.
