The new Formula 1 season starts with a certainty for Williams: the Grove-based team keeps its test driver Roy Nissany in 2021 too, becoming the first support driver to be officially confirmed by Willians new leaders.

The 26-year-old had several chances to improve the British team during last season as he drove in three FP1 (Italian Grand Prix, Spain plus Bahrain) and he grabbed a full test day after the race in Abu Dhabi but this year he wants more.

The team, indeed, promised him he will drive the new Williams single-seater for one full pre-seasonal test day, leaving just one occasion to the official driver George Russell and Nicholas Latifi. Moreover, the new leaders stated he is going to give the Israeli more simulator running.

As a team, we were very happy with the contributions Roy made both through his work on-track and in the simulator at Grove, which all aided the lap time gains we were able to make with the FW43- affirmed Williams’ team principal Simon Roberts. - We also enjoyed seeing Roy grow as a driver, and we have no doubt that he will continue to go from strength-to-strength this year."

Nissany spent the whole last season combining his engagements in both F1 and F2, scoring only two points but improving very much in his driving skills and cold temper and he sound very happy to double 2020 experience as a F1 team’s test driver.

“I am truly honoured to continue being part of Williams,- stated the Israeli driver - Since we started, we have made huge progress across many areas. On top of the great FP1s, we had a lot of productive work behind the scenes. While dedicating as much as I can to the team, I enhanced my skills and my capabilities as a driver. I am very keen to continue this form in 2021."

Nissany really happened to begin his adventure in F1 at the right time, with the whole Williams redesigning its team and he could really have a chance, especially if Russell will go to Mercedes in 2022.
