After edging out his team-mate Valtteri Bottas, by slightest of the margins, since Nurburgring, Lewis Hamilton couldn’t fend off the flying Finn in the last run of Q3. In his second flying lap of Q3 Lewis Hamilton missed out the pole position by just a tenth of a second and will be starting the EMILIA ROMAGNA GP behind his Mercedes team-mat Valtteri Bottas.

In his post Qualifying media debrief, Lewis Hamilton thinks there are very over-taking opportunity at the track due to its narrow layout and he race will be very boring due to that. But he is positive about the first corner dash at his team-mate because of the long run to the first corner.

“For tomorrow, I’m pretty certain we will see quite a boring race, because the track is quite narrow and there’s nowhere you can really pass after the first chicane.”

“So, it’s going to be a tough challenge when following, but hopefully the DRS will give us opportunities into the first braking zone.”

Shedding light on his Qualifying run, reigning champion explained it wasn’t one of his best session and there was more he could have extracted from the car but its part of the sports and you can’t just always have a perfect run.

“Valtteri did a great job this afternoon and it was a pretty poor final lap from me, but these things happen and you can’t always get it perfect.”

Even though teams only get one practice session for this weekend’s race Lewis Hamilton already believe the tyres are working better than the last weeks race at Portugal.

“The tyres are working better here than they did in Portugal last weekend but it was still a real challenge out there today.”

Championship leader expects a tough fight from the Red Bull driver Max Verstappen as he reckons their long run pace was looking good in the only practice session of the race.

“We saw Max was very strong on his race runs this morning, so he will be a threat, and I’m just going to give it everything I’ve got tomorrow and see where we get to.”

Furthermore, Lewis added that he loves the history about this track and its placement is just beautiful and new designers should design tracks like this.

“This circuit is unbelievable, it’s a classic with amazing history, and the speeds that we are going round it are pretty mind blowing; I’m so grateful to be here and to have the performance that we have, which is really remarkable.”
