Today was the second day of on-track action of the Russian Grand Prix and we could see some surprises, but with a Mercedes (as usual) at the front of the starting grid. After dominating the third free practice session, Lewis Hamilton achieved pole position at the Sochi circuit. Max Verstappen managed to beat Valtteri Bottas to take second place and last place on the front row of the starting grid. In the second row will start the Finnish driver from Mercedes along with a surprising P4 from the Mexican driver from Racing Point, Sergio Pérez. Recall that Lance Stroll drove the Racing Point with many improvements and upgrades both in aerodynamics and in his power unit, the Canadian driver only managed to finish in thirteenth position and out of Q3, while Sergio finished in fourth position with a best time of 1:32,317. It was a fabulous session for the Mexican as, despite not having the updated car, he achieved a great position to start tomorrow's race.

“I’m very happy with our performance today: I think P4 was the maximum I could achieve because Max and the two Mercedes were very strong out there. We were able to qualify ahead of our nearest rivals, which is the main thing. It was a really though session because the wind kept changing and we had the disruption of the red flag too.” Affirmed the Mexican driver.

Checo seems pretty happy with the performance of his Racing Point. Although, he affirmed it was a really difficult session since a lot of their rivals brought upgrades for their cars, making them faster, and achieving this P4 seems like a big effort for him and for the British-Canadian team.

“It’s a credit to the team that we were able to manage the sessions so well and extract the maximum from the car. A podium could be difficult to achieve here, but anything can happen at the start with the long run to Turn 2. If we make a strong start and manage the tyres well, I think we can fight for a good result tomorrow.” Expressed Checo.

He looks confident and he always looks for the best aim, as he said, a podium is possible to achieve if the team and the driver make the right decisions at the same time. He has achieved one podium back in 2015 and another seems very likely, where do you think Checo will finish in tomorrow’s race?
