F1 | Russian GP | Hamilton is once again the poleman in a “slippery” Qualifying
Hamilton gets another pole while a red flag menaced to set him off in the Q2. Behind him a great Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas, only third.
The Qualifying session of the Russian Grand Prix has just ended. Mercedes dominated the whole weekend quite comfortably, with Valtteri Bottas who secured himself an amount of top positions and Lewis Hamilton who can allow himself an error just to come back stronger than ever.
However, the predictions for Sunday’s race aren’t as easy as a whistle to make because if on one hand there is to say that the Silver Arrow can brag every single victory on this circuit since it was born, the slippery and tricky track can still hide some surprises and today’s qualifying are a proof of this. During the Q2, in fact, Sebastian Vettel just slipped out of the track and he hit the wall, with Charles Leclerc passing quickly on a part of Vettel’s car that was on the track. Luckily he is okay but the car is almost destroyed and definitely needs some substitutions that will require a 5 places penalty on the grid for tomorrow. The session had a red flag, with Lewis Hamilton at risk of ending out of it but making it anyway to Q3. Not content with that he gets the pole position too, scoring the record of the track too. Max Verstappen on the other hand steals the second place to Valtteri Bottas, only third.
In fourth place there is a super Sergio Perez on the Racing Point. The Mexican is still available, as he lost his seat to Sebastian Vettel for the 2021 season and he is trying hard to show off. Daniel Ricciardo gets with his good Renault single-seater a fifth place, followed by Carlos Sainz on his McLaren. In seventh place there is the other Renault, the one driven by Esteban Ocon, followed up by the Briton Lando Norris.
Pierre Gasly makes it to bring his Alfa Tauri in ninth place, ahead of the man he aims to take revenge on and get “his” own Red Bull place Alex Albon.
Charles Leclerc was penalised and could not get more than a 11th place even if he had the pace to do something more.
