After a strong result in FP2, where he qualified 2nd overall, Alex Albon once again missed out the chance to get to Q3. The anglo- thai driver suffered new electrical issues in the morning, meaning he spent very few time behind the wheel on the Silverstone circuit.

Despite the great lap time in FP2, Albon crashed his RB16 at the end of the session, and even went to the medical centre to be checked out. He soon came back in the car this morning.

In qualifying, Alex had to spot in Q2: his lap time was the twelth best overall: he will get free tyre choices for the race.

"We tried the mediums, it wasn't a terrible lap, but it wasn't an amazing lap," Alex explained "I had a couple of mistakes in the lap, so I knew we could go quicker. Obviously at that point it's kind of, do you risk it and go again on the mediums or you try to play safe on the softs? We went safe on the softs".

"To be honest, I can't explain the last run too much. I feel like I just didn't extract the lap and that was it. I missed out. Obviously it wasn't by much, but at the same time definitely we should have been a bit higher up than we were."

The lack of time spent on track didn't help the thai driver, who is already in the middle of the paddock gossips, as speculations rises near his position in the team.

"It definitely didn't help. Obviously it's a bit notorious Silverstone for the wind, but I don't want to make any excuses of course" Albon told motorsport.com.

"It's tricky out there. And, yeah, we obviously missed a bit of track time coming into qualifying, which would have been pretty useful obviously. Friday went pretty well. Obviously we had the crash, but the pace was strong so I was pretty positive going into today. But I just struggled: just struggled a bit with the change of balance and extracting the most out of it."

His teammate's results are not helping him: Max Verstappen will start from the second row, behind the two Silver Arrows.
