The Coronavirus pandemic strikes again in F1, as Pirelli confirms one of their personnel in Melbourne tested positive for the virus.

The Italian tyre manufacturer addressed the situation by stating that the team member concerned “is now following all the relevant procedures put in place by the Australian health authorities”.

Despite contracting the virus following the Australian GP weekend, the subject did not have any contact with third parties that require to be precautionally isolated. Hence, no mass quarantine is expected after the reported case.

“Pirelli is closely monitoring the situation in line with public health policies and company guidelines.” added the Italian company.

In the meantime, the infected McLaren team member is reportedly recovering well and “is no longer showing symptoms”, as the Woking-based team announced on Monday.

The other self-isolated 14 employees in Melbourne remain quarantined in Melbourne and they “are in good spirits”, according to McLaren CEO Zak Brown. Racing director Andrea Stella and Andreas Seidl also showed solidarity to their colleagues by choosing to stay in Melbourne until the end of the 14-day quarantine period.
