Italian GP | Ricciardo: "Happy but I thought there could be a big opportunity"
It's 22 points in the bag for the Renault duo. The best weekend since the yellow painted cars rejoined the circus in 2016 is reflected by Daniel Ricciardo's words: a lot of happiness, just a tiny bit of disappointment.
“We deserved that today. It matches my best ever result here in Monza and to do it with Renault is great" stated the Aussie, being the fourth driver to cross the finish-line in Monza.
"To get the team’s best result since returning to Formula 1 in fourth and fifth at a power circuit really complements Renault and their hard work."
In the battle for the fourth place in the constructors' championship, this season Renault has put its wheels in front of the McLarens in most of the power-unit based tracks, but never with such a dominance. After a brilliant saturday that saw Ricciardo qualifying in P5 and Hulkenberg in P6, an even better sunday welcomed the #3 and the #27 at the Italian Grand Prix.
Straight after the start, Nico Hulkenberg overtook Sebastian Vettel around the outside of Della Roggia corner on lap one to momentarily take p4.

Taking advantage of Vettel's defaillance, the Renault pair classified respectively in fourth and fifth, but still not enough to keep them away from dreaming for something even bigger.
"I saw the battles happening at the front and I thought there could be a big opportunity -said a Ricciardo with still some podium hopes in his eyes- I’m really happy for myself and also for the team."
